I thought it was all the free alcohol (to impair your judgement) + the lure of winning easy money (which leads to the "just one more try and I can make all of my money back" mentality) + the fact that the odds are almost always in the house's favor (it's a business after all, their job is to make money)

There's a computer at my house that did this. All my computers run legit licenses yet 1 of them decided it wasn't genuine anymore. It didn't block the internet though, just is annoying and keeps me from getting Windows updates.

It does make sense, someone who can't tell the difference between Windows and Linux isn't a very skilled computer user, and that type of person would be gullible enough to download executables if a website asks.
