Previously, Bond movies have each included an individual story arc. While some enemies remained for multiple pictures (i.e. Ernst Stavro Blofeld), we have not yet seen a "sequel" per se, to any Bond movie. It will be interesting to see if the writers can maintain the distinct 007 feel while relying on key plot elements that were introduced in a previous Bond movie. To some, that each Bond film stands on its own plotwise is one of the main reasons the series has lasted for over 40 years with more than 20 motion pictures. Casino Royale did seem to take the series in a new creative direction, and it remains to be seen whether the James Bond franchise can continue onwards without a major drought as occurred for 6 years between 1989 and 1995, when Timothy Dalton's Bond once looked to be the last.
