I guess this movie brings Bond back to the Bond of the novels. The ball-itch scene (if you've seen it you know what I am talking about) is directly out of the novel. I rather enjoyed it, and the last line of the movie sent the audience I saw it with into a tizzy. Now, the question is: are they going to remake all of the other Bond movies now but make them truer to the novels? Or are they going to go with a completely new stories?

I picked up a bunch of the original Ian Fleming books at a yard sale for like a quarter each a while back and settled in and finished them all in a few days. i remember being really impressed with the stories and the writing. None of the movies really every seemed to capture the essence of them. Connery was great, but he wasn't what I had imagined at all. Roger Moore was a freakin joke. I like Brosnan, mostly because I was a big fan of Remington Steele and his stint as bond seemed like an extension of that, so I was happy with him, but for purely personal reasons. And that other retard, all I can say is WTF?!? This one sounds like it's gonna be more Michael Bay's 007 or something than Fleming's 007, which might not necessarily be a bad thing, but whatever. Craig is cool as heck, so I'll go see it. But I don't think they're any closer to getting him 'right.'

I'm in the minority, I know, but I really couldn't get into the movie. I do think Craig is fantastic as Bond, but the story just didn't capture me. It felt to me like they made it up as they went along. Also, while I can appreciate the idea of making Bond more "real" and more "vulnerable", this Bond seems mostly to survive by blind luck. In parts it's fun, but after the endless poker game I was just waiting for it to end, and it did. Rather, it did 2 or 3 times, "Jason"-style. I still recommend the movie to others, albeit noting that I didn't like it, because I think most people will like it. Indeed, I am still looking forward to the next movie because I appreciate the direction they are taking it and I think Craig makes a fantastic Bond, I just don't think this movie is all that good, certainly not nearly as good as its being reviewed.
